Chairman of the Board

Hussein Hamed Hassan Ph.D

Hussein Hamid Hassan is considered as the father of Islamic finance. He received his PhD from the faculty of Sharia at the Al Azhar University in Cairo in 1965 and holds two degrees in law from the International Institute of Comparative Law, University of New York. He chairs the Sharia Supervisory Committee of many Islamic banks in the Middle East, and has advised several governments.

An expert in Law, he had been the attorney general for the government of Egypt between 1969 and 1970. He has advised several governments in the Middle East and CIS countries on establishment of Islamic Finance Institutions. According to Mr Hassan, Islamic financing is the most equitable form of financing since it enables the creation of wealth without fueling inflation or stoking a financial crisis.


First Deputy

Ali Ahmad Al Salous Ph.D

He specializes in economy and regarded as an expert in the field of Islamic finance. He was granted his Doctor’s degree in Shariah in 1975 from the University of Cairo. He is currently a professor of Jurisprudence in the Shariah Department of the University of Qatar and is considered a world expert in economy and jurisprudence. He is a member of the Jurisprudence Committee of the World Islamic League, Mecca, Saudi Arabia


Second Deputy

Wahbah Moustafa Al Zoheily Ph.D

He is a prominent Sunni professor and Islamic scholar specializing in Islamic law and legal philosophy. He is also currently a preacher at Badr Mosque in Dair Atiah. He is the author of scores of books on Islamic and secular law, many of which have been translated to English. He is chairman of Islamic jurisprudence in the College of Sharia at Damascus University. He is also a signatory to the Amman Message and A Common Word documents.

He studied sharia in the University of Damascus for six years, graduating in 1952 at the top of his class. He furthered his Islamic education at the prestigious Al-Azhar University where he again graduated at the top of his class in 1956. After graduating in 1956, Dr. Zuhayli also received an ijaza in teaching Arabic from Al-Azhar.

He serves as Islamic legal consultant to Islamic financial companies and institutions including the International Islamic Bank. He is also a well known religious preacher in the Islamic world, appearing frequently on television and radio programs; he also frequently appears in the Arab press.


General Secretary

Salah Al Sawy Ph.D

Previously, the shaykh assumed various prominent positions some of which were: Professor in the Faculty of Legislation and Law at Al-Azhar University, Professor at Umm Al Qura University, a visiting professor in the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Sciences in Washington DC., President of the American Open University and a VP to its Board of Trustees.

Currently, the shaykh is the President of the Sharia Academy and the Secretary General for the Assembly of Muslim Jurists in America.
