In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent Most Merciful,

The Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America strongly condemns the criminal terrorist attacks that took place in Paris, leaving behind hundreds of casualties and injuries. This crime, condemnable Islamically and humanitarianly, reminds us of the evil of violence and terrorism. It should also bring to our attention the following principles:

The sanctity of human life. Violating that sanctity is of the worst crimes that necessitate firm legal action and punishment for the perpetrators, in addition to their punishment in the hereafter.

The ideologies that approve of these crimes are offensive to the essence of the Divine revelations and human covenants. They are not only a threat to the lives of people, but they are also a threat to the religion or political cause they falsely claim to defend.

The world-wide phenomenon of terrorism is complex, whether it is state sponsored or committed by organizations or individuals. Acts of terrorism cannot be treated in isolation from one another or in isolation from their larger context. To be able to defeat terrorism, we must address all of its manifestations and causes with balance and objectivity, apart from the political or religious biases.

The confrontation of terrorism through the use of force is insufficient. The confrontation should be at all levels and from all angles. The biased, imbalanced, hasty, or overly simplified approach to the management of this scourge will result in its spread and flare-up.

Finally, we repeat our utmost condemnation of these attacks, regardless of their source and regardless of the religious affiliation of its perpetrators. Moreover, we reiterate that Islam is clear of such despicable injustice. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and those who are wounded. We ask Allah that peace may prevail on earth. We ask Him to guide the world leaders to the establishment of justice in their domestic and foreign policies, so that peace may return to the wounded planet and suffering humanity. Such peace and security will be in the best interest of all people of all religions and civilizations.
