In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Grantor of Mercy. All praise is due to Allah, and may His peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.

The Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA) congratulates Muslims throughout the world, and specifically in the US, on the upcoming arrival of Ramadan and announces the following:

Tomorrow, Wednesday March 22, 2023, will be the 30th of Sha’ban, and the day after tomorrow, Thursday March 23, 2023, is the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan. We ask Allah to make it come, by Allah’s leave, with goodness and success for us all and for the entire ummah.
This is due to the lack of certain confirmation of a sighting of the crescent in the United States, especially with the obstruction in the sky preventing sight due to rain in California. This is in addition to the fact that a number of Islamic nations in the East have announced that the crescent of Ramadan was not sighted tonight. Thus, tomorrow is the completion of Sha’ban.

The Assembly announces this to the Muslims in America, and this is what the extent of our effort has led us to, and it does not rebuke those who have reached another conclusion. Each person is trusted regarding his religion.

The assembly, represented by the fatwa committee, makes this announcement to the Muslims of the United States, praying to Allah, the Majestic, the Most High, to accept the righteous actions of us all, just as we pray to Allah to lift the calamities from our brothers and sisters of our ummah around the world, and specifically to aid those harmed by the earthquakes in Turkey and the Syria and in other places wherever they may be, and to fulfill what He has promised them by saving them and giving them support.

Allah is All-Knowing of people’s intentions, and He is the one who guides to the straight path.
