Assalamu alaikum, On different sites, I read different things regarding this topic, so I find myself confused at times. Shouldn't the girls be able to refuse the men, or does Islam allow them to be used? In 33:50 - "Prophet, We have made lawful to you the wives to whom you have granted dowries and the slave girls whom God has given you as booty." Another instance is in the Hadith: Narrated Ibn Muhairiz: "I entered the mosque and saw Abu Khudri [sic] and sat beside him and asked him about coitus interruptus. Abu [sic] said, "We went out with Allah's messenger for the Ghazwa (attack upon) Banu Mustaliq and we received captives from among the Arab captives and we desired women and celibacy became hard on us and we loved to do coitus interruptus. So when we intended to do coitus interruptus, we said, "How can we do coitus interruptus without asking Allah's messenger while he is present among us?" We asked (him) about it and he said: "It is better for you not to do so, for if any soul (till the Day of Resurrection) is predestined to exist, it will exist." Why did the Prophet (s.a.w.) disapprove of this? I know there is an ayah (verse) saying that you should not compel your slave girls, but with this and our limited knowledge, we start to think that Islam might have actually allowed it, otherwise the Prophet (s.a.w.) would have told them not to bother the girls at all. Because of that, Islam considered freeing slaves a virtuous act and a meritorious deed. Islamic regulation has also made the freeing of a slave the expiation for numerous sins, violations and felony offenses. Furthermore, if a slave wants to free him or herself from slavery, his master must agree to that request and allow the slave to work and pay for his freedom. Slavery means that the slave is owned by his/her master like any other property. According to Arabian tradition and Islamic Law, this ownership entails allowing a male master to have conjugal relations with his female slave if she is physically and psychologically able to tolerate that. Slavery occurs or is initiated when the party that has been victorious on the battlefield takes the non-combatant female captives of the defeated party as booty. That is what has been applied before and during Islam, as I explained. In light of the above explanation, I hope the misunderstanding you had has now become clear.
