May the peace and mercy of Allah be upon you.
Allah has blessed me with making Hajj this year after a long string of sins – may Allah spare you – and I resolved to make a real new start. But, unfortunately, I committed a major sin and I have been practically choking to death [with regret] since I committed this sin. Does that mean that my Hajj was not accepted and is there any relation between committing this sin after the Hajj and the validity of my Hajj?
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his household, his companions and those who have followed him. To proceed:
We advise you to renew your repentance and to think the best of your Lord. Do not lose hope of His Mercy.
{And those who, when they have committed illegal sexual intercourse or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask for forgiveness for their sins – and none can forgive sins but Allah – and do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know.}
[Surat Aal Imran 3:135]
Renew your resolve to rise again after this stumble and to repent after your error. The doors to your Lord are still open – before the Hajj and afterward. People continue to err, day and night, but then they flee back to their Lord, and they find Him, Sympathetic and Bounteous, Oft-Forgiving and Ever-Merciful! The Most High has said (interpretation of the meaning):
{Say: “Oh my slaves who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins), despair not of the Mercy of Allah; verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.}
[Surat al-Zumar 39:53]
It has also come in a Hadith Qudsi [in which the Prophet reports Allah’s Saying in his own words]: “Oh my slaves, verily, you make mistakes by night and day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness with Me and I will forgive you.”
I ask Allah to remit your sin and to bring you back to Him in a beautiful way. Ameen.
And Allah Almighty is the Most High, and He knows best.
