Question
Can our zakat donation be considered a charitable donation that can be claimed when we file our income taxes in the United States? We are able to claim all charitable donations.
Answer
Alhamdu Lillah
You are looking for a Zakah eligible & Tax deductible recipient, which is easy to find.
You can pay your Zakah to any of the Islamic organizations who have 501(C) 3 status with the IRS, meaning; non-Profit organization.
These organizations are eligible Zakah recipients-as needed only- according to the Fiqh Council of the Muslim World League- and we support this Fatwa in AMA- and Tax exempted at the same time. So, when paying to such organizations, you fulfill your Zakah duty and your payment is Tax deductible.
