Salam Alaikom, I live in the USA for over 5 years, I always made sure to eat halal meat, I would like to know if eating chicken in restaurant is halal or in store, knowing that the closes halal restaurant to me is about 40 minutes away. Jazakom Allah khair

My position is that the chicken you purchase from the grocery stores in the USA and that are not marked halal is impermissible to eat.
